History (the writing of the Constitution)
ReplyDeleteFollowing the war that led to the independence of the United States, a new form of government was established and the Articles of Confederation were put in place. However, these were very weak and many politicians of the 16th century opposed them. In their place, the Constitution that is still in place today was written and established. The men that wrote the Constitution preached about the equality of men and the importance of state sovereignty. In contrast, the rights listed in the Constitution did not include many classes of people such as women or people of color. In addition, the men who wrote the Constitution were slave holders even though they demanded equality. Although the writing of the Constitution is a very fascinating topic, it is often sugar coated in classrooms where a lot of crucial information is left out of curriculum. An example of this is in classes where students are taught the significance of the Framers while completely ignoring the fact that equality was not meant for all at the time. Ultimately, it is crucial to remark the Framers' success at creating a Constitution that is still in place today (while many other countries have completely rewritten theirs) but people must also be aware that the Framers' views on equality are very different than what they might believe.
Amy Winehouse is an artist whose work exemplifies the power of song to speak relatable truths and evoke feeling when the music is written from raw emotion rooted in an artist’s personal experience. Many of Winehouse’s songs are directly descriptive of events in her life, such as “Back to Black” which is about her painful breakup with her long-time boyfriend, and the lyrics “and if my Daddy thinks I’m fine,” in “Rehab,” about Amy’s father’s having discouraged her from starting treatment in order to finish her album. Winehouse evokes her raw pain with her songs’ overall gritty tone, combined with her often moody, dark visuals, such as the Back to Black video which was shot in black and white in a funeral setting. Her harsh, raspy voice also metaphorically suggests her impurity due to hard experiences in her life. “…[A]rguably one of the decade’s strongest, most nakedly expressive singer/songwriters,” Winehouse may have even had large cross-over appeal in part because she “…articulated the emotion and depth of experience that’s ofttimes associated with Black music.” (Amy Linden, Ebony.com, 9/26/13). Fans are drawn and can relate to Amy’s work in large part because she was a truly “authentic artist” who “sung from a place of pain that imbued each song with a sense of vulnerability that could not be faked or learned.” (Musicroom.com blog, 7/23/13). In the documentary “Amy,” many of the people who knew Winehouse described how music was her personal outlet to escape from the “stuff,” and Amy herself described how, “I wrote a song about it and I feel better.” Ultimately Amy’s raw emotion-packed songs provoke and conjure one’s own emotion in which they are able to morph the artist’s anthem into their own.
ReplyDeleteAn important event that took place relatively recently, and still holds relevance today, was the U.S. missile attack on a Syrian air base. The U.S. strike which included 59 missiles, was provoked by the Syrian Government conducting a chemical attack that killed at least a hundred people. The U.S. before the strike, informed Russian officials as Russia in an ally of Syria. The purpose of this was to give a warning for people to evacuate the military premises to prevent unnecessary injuries or deaths. However, during the attack nine people were killed who lived near the base, including four children. Although this whole attack may only seem of concern to those who live in Syria, it should in fact concern all Americans as well. This is because Russia and Iran weren’t too pleased with America’s attack. A few days following the attack Russia and Iran warned the United States that they will respond with force if the United States were to attack Syria again. This matters because although highly unlikely, there is at least some potential for another world war. Another country that the U.S. currently has tension with, and who the U.S. probably tried to send a message to through the Syria attacks is North Korea. North Korea, has chemical weapons that are capable of imposing damage on other countries. North Korea is running nuclear and missile programs and as recently as yesterday, they threatened to sink a U.S. ship nearby. I recommend that everyone go deeper into this topic because it is important to be updated on the relationships the U.S. has with other countries. Also, this is especially true for all of us as we live in a global landmark where other countries would try to target.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of sports is in the passion of the fans and the dedications of the players. One player in particular stands out, the one and only Lionel Messi. Messi embodies every little boys and girls dream to be a soccer player. He started from next to nothing, growing up in a relatively poor neighborhood in Argentina. Messi suffered from a hormone deficiency and his parents were forced to pay for treatment, however it became to expensive which is when the soccer club F.C Barcelona offered to pay for the treatment if Messi moved to spain and trained in the youth academy. Through hard work and dedication Messi was able to move through the ranks of the youth academy and play for the first team. Which is where he captured the attention of millions by leading Barcelona to title after title. So far he’s managed to get five ballon d’Ors(Trophy given out annually to the best player that year) which makes him the most successful player to ever graze the pitch. Even more impressively he has remained loyal to his club and fans which is why I admire him. He is humble in comparison to other players often not flaunting his money. He represents true passion and love for the game. When I first saw him play and realized the qualities he had I instantly fell in love with the game. Therefore, although not everyone shares the same opinions as me, I believe that any who loves sports became passionate because they saw a person who they wanted to be. A person who exemplifies the true meaning of the sport, in all of it’s glory and struggle.
ReplyDeleteRihanna, who is not only known as the queen of pop, but is also seen as a role model to many people due to her powerful and passionate songs, her strong credibility as an independent woman and her charitable work that has heavily impacted our society. Although some may think that Rihanna is an artist who only appeals to the younger generations and may or may not be a bad influence on teenagers, these people should also consider the hard and charitable work she puts in to see others happy and to live a successful life. For example, Rihanna was granted with the 2017 humanitarian award from Harvard University due to her hard work throughout the years. Throughout the years of her singing career, Rihanna was able to build a state-of-the-art center for oncology and a nuclear diagnose for breast cancer in Barbados. In her speech at Harvard University, she inspires many people who have had a hard time with their lives “you don’t have to be rich to be a humanitarian” (Rihanna). Another reason why many other people look up to Rihanna is because she was determined from the start rather than having someone help her to fame. Unlike many other artists who were raised in an already wealthy and/or already famous family, Rihanna grew up with a crack cocaine addicted father and parents who constantly argued. Ultimately, Rihanna demonstrates someone who worked hard for what they wanted and even when they became rich and famous they still remembered who they were before they had a luxurious life. Rihanna is an important figure to our society not only because of her music but because she gives back to the community and remembers who she was before she became the famous Rihanna.
ReplyDeletePeople are influenced every single day. We are influenced by things we hear, things we read and things we see. We see things on our phones, on social media and TV, and we want what we see and want to be like the people we follow. One of the biggest influential figures today is Kanye West. Mr. West has ruled the fashion world for years now, alongside his fashion icon wife, Kim Kardashian. West influences a vast number of people across the world, who will take after his iconic outfits. West holds the influence of the fashion world in his hands. One of his main tools is his “Yeezy” sneaker line that started at Nike and has now transitioned over to Adidas. Yeezys retail from around $220-$650. Every time a pair releases, people go crazy for them. Everyone wants the new Yeezys. They sell out instantly after every release, and are in such high demand that they resell for thousands of dollars. West holds influence in the palm of his hand, and is using it as much as he can. I recommend others take notice of this influence as it’s simply amazing to see the lengths consumers will go to be like someone else, or to have the hype items. One person controls so many just by the items he produces and the clothing he wears. I’ve bought shoes before just because I had seen Kanye wear them. Kanye’s influence has become a lifestyle for many, and continue to lead the fashion world.
ReplyDeleteChildren learn about history so that they can learn what not to repeat and why not to repeat it, as well as to pay respect to those who made the world we live in today. In the 1950's the civil rights movement took way to begin a long process of equality for all. It lasted 14 years in total, yet equality has truly never come. Martin Luther King Jr. was the leader of the movement, and he was best known for his nonviolent civil acts, most of which consisted of marches and speeches. The most known speech given by MLK, and quite possibly the most known speech that a U.S. citizen has ever given was his I have a dream speech. This speech motivated many to continue to fight, and to this day motivate many protests. Another leading force in the civil rights movement was the Black Panthers who took a different approach then MLK. The Black Panthers approach was freedom and equality through violence. The overall significants of the civil rights movement was its impact on our world today. Although there is still racism and bias that is very prominent, our world has gotten slightly better since the days of segregation. This topic is very much needed to learn about because without the knowledge of the civil rights movement, and the struggle many people had to go through one may fail to give thanks and/ or acknowledge those who worked for the world we have today. Its also important to learn because the work is not yet done, and the people who marched and fought for freedom started the fight that this generation must finish.
ReplyDeleteThere’s no sports figure that inspires me, but I admire their dedication and hard work off and on the field. I think the people who are really inspirational are my team mates for SOF girls’ varsity soccer team and the boys’ varsity team. Soccer overall as a topic is pretty interesting because it’s not always about winning, teams can lose, but still feel satisfied because they know that all their members tried hard in the match. As part of the school’s team I play midfield and there’s various times where I have mental breakdowns because there’s always obstacles and lots of activity going around for the team so if one person is stressed or is lacking it affects the whole team. Luckily, our team has always made it into the playoffs, the team lacks in communication so it messes up some of our games because not everyone is on the same page. However, when there’s great communication the team is always bright and playing hard, but still having fun. The result of communication is that it makes us understand each other better and overall it makes the team succeed, so during playoffs we are never upset about losing as long as there was communication. When the members act like a team there are less obstacles, and in general this teamwork has taught me personally that you really can’t make it without the efforts of others. It also applies to society since there are many social problems that we have created ourselves, if the members of our community act like an actual mature society there wouldn’t be as much problems as we have today and there can be a possibility of achieving more. Not just soccer, but sports are a great influence for future generations or young adults to create a better society.
ReplyDeleteIt has always held true that with sports, come debates. Not only about which sport is better, but about which team is better, which strategy is better, and which player is better. One of the most significant debates in sports history is whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi are better soccer players. They hail from different countries - Ronaldo from Portugal, Messi from Argentina - but play for rival teams in the same country: Real Madrid and Barcelona, both located in Spain. These teams have a historical rivalry that originated before Ronaldo or Messi joined their respective teams, but their membership has arguably intensified the competition. The two both play the same position - forward - and are the top two current players in the world. They have been consistently neck and neck for the Ballon D'Or (the annual award for worlds best player) since the early 2000's, and their club teams win title after title. And while, as stated previously, debates and sports go hand in hand, this one should be laid to rest. These players may hold certain similarities, but comparing two soccer players is like asking which of two colors is the better one. They play with different strategies, different methods, etc. It is so rare for soccer to ever have two such amazing players grace the field at the same time, and soccer fans should appreciate that rather than taint it with unsubstantiated arguments. Although this point may seem of concern to only a small group of dedicated soccer fans, it should in fact concern anyone who cares about any sport, at any level, and who appreciates thrill of watching sports events.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Dalloway is a short novel by Virginia Woolf that tells of one day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway as she prepares for a party she’s hosting in the evening. The book follows her as she goes about setting up for the party and thinking about the life she’s lived to get her to where she is. Married to the rich man, in the big house, living from one frivolous party to the next. A lot of the book is told through flashbacks to contrast who Clarissa was to who she has let herself become. She juxtaposes the man she loved when she was young and full of ideas to the wealthy man that she married. At the time the book is set following the first world war, women were still openly presented as second to men. Clarissa was supposed to entertain the guests while her husband works. However that wasn’t the life that Clarissa wanted for herself, in her youth she was independent and ahead of her time. However she let herself conform to this image that was expected of a woman in her world. She lost her independence and her freedom and she spends much of the book rethinking how she got to this day and how different things would be had she held on to her old personality. The title of the book implies the feeling of Clarissa in the book as her current life was built around this marriage that destroyed her old spirit. The book is entitled Mrs. Dalloway to emphasize that she embodies the image of the married woman at the time, attending parties and tending to the little, seemingly unimportant details while her husband works and makes his way. Mrs. Dalloway teaches an idea that we let ourselves get tied up in what we think we have a responsibility to do that we forget the duty we should have to retain what was once most important to us.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a large part of everyday culture, it not only connects people but allows them to express themselves in creative and innovative ways. One way that popular culture has gone hand in hand with technology is through selfies. Selfies allow someone to express themselves through just a single picture, you can show an emotion or evoke one from just a snap. This connection allows people to also see the technological advances from the worlds first camera, to a hand held device that can take a picture, send a message to someone across the world or even directions to remote locations. Selfies are important in popular culture, because it allows this underlying connection to be seen between the selfie taker and the people viewing it. This connection between audience and speaker, allows for the audience to feel as though they know the speaker on a personal level. Because selfies are such personal tokens by showing them to others you're opening yourself up. Although selfies seem trivial due to the fact that they're personal and allow others to see another side of you, ultimately they only promote "community" because they bring together the person taking them and the people who see them. For example, James Franco, believes that selfies are a way for fans to really get to know him. Once Franco started posting selfies he began to get different, positive and more personal comments from his fans and created a greater relationship between himself and fans. Ultimately what selfies demonstrate in popular culture is a persons ability to become personal with the public.
ReplyDeleteVideo games are an art form worth watching. Video games are a relatively new art form in the grand scope of art but they provide a huge realm of possibilities for artists. Video games allow artists to craft active experiences. Plays, poems, paintings, and dance are all watched experiences. Video games allow artists to try a new medium and allow them to show you the peace as if you're in it. This allows the artist to create better horror prices from active involvement, create a sense of struggle, and give the audience room to play. Video games also create a totally different experience than traditional art because the actual gameplay adds to the experience and the movement and thought process is different for different games. The actual core gameplay is also something worth analyzing otherwise why would pong have been so popular that the machine stopped working from to many coins while asteroid the first arcade game was ignored. The gameplay is really hard to analyze and that most likely comes from how new the genre is. I have always wished I were more of a gamer because I see how cool games are and while others may find that ironic it is because I see games as a valuable use of my time. As a student or teacher who enjoys books, movies, and fine arts, video games provide a new form of art for you to consume. The common tropes that classify video games as violent and boring should not stop you from discovering the art in the game.
ReplyDeleteIt is agreed on a global scale that soccer is a beautiful sport, one that exceeds the characteristics of just a game. To some people, it is just a game, but to others, it is a lifestyle, that gets followed like some sort of cult or religion. Much like any sport or religion, soccer has its influential speakers, that one pioneer who changed and revolutionized people's perspective on soccer. Fútbol, as known on a global scale, has had its fair share of pioneers-Pelé, Beckenbaur, Maradona, Zidane and even Messi- but non have had a larger influence on the game than the late Johan Cruyff.
ReplyDeleteCruyff, as a player, was the first to ever Dutch player to win a Ballon D'or, as well as the first player ever to win three Ballon D'ors, which is the highest individual award a player can receive in soccer. Starting his career at Ajax, he quickly transferred to Barcelona, where he helped them win their first championship in fourteen years. Despite his personal achievements, he is most famously known for inventing the "Cruyff", a body fake followed by a quick drag of the ball with one leg behind the other, which he infamously used to beat defenders. After his days of playing has passed, Cruyff took up coaching the next generation of Barcelona his philosophies. Here, he turned the unknown Catalan team into the powerhouse it is known for today. He implimented the system still used by Barcelona as well as many clubs today known as "tiki taka", which consists of players using three touches or less to move as a unit and quickly pass the ball through the opposition. He guided Barcelona's "dream team" to win many of its achievements consisting of cups, titles, and championships. He helped to secure Barcelona's unique playing philosophy and legacy by scouting out players such as Pep Guardiola, and even Lionel Messi.
Although Johan Cruyff's legacy may seem of concern for only a small group of soccer enthusiasts, it should in fact concern anyone who has a passion. Because of his unique ideas, Johan Cruyff was able to cement his spot as a leader and influential figure. He proposed new ideas, and easier ways to achieve a goal(both metaphorically and literally), which helped him to be viewed as a great leader, as his initial ideas are still idolized today.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a tv show that ran from 1997 to 2003, created by Joss Whedon. The story followed the chronicles of the protagonist Buffy Summers, in her journey from adolescence to adulthood, as the vampire slayer in a long line of slayers. Though the show's fantasy elements are certainly an important trait of the show, they operate on a much deeper level: the monsters and demons in the world are manifestations of the trials people face in their coming-of-age. The fantasy elements serve as a way for Whedon to analyze the systems and structures our society is built on. Take the idea of slayers, for example; "into every generation there is a slayer" is what the show often starts with in its theme, a long line of female that are constraint with their watchers, a large group of mostly males. The slayers give added strength to their females but also operates as a system of control, of which is used to keep females subservient in a patriarchy (emulated after contemporary society). They also offer comfort to a group of generational viewers that likely grew with the show; Buffy may possess powers that are unlike any others but she is still a teenage girl, one who has to often face the moral and ethnic values that come with growing up. Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be a show that makes reaches at an attempt of 90s fantasy but where it is great, it shines because it is primarily a show about characters - one that relies on themes of identity, right of passage, and the choices that make people who they are.
ReplyDeleteOne female artist that I really admire is Tori Kelly. As noted throughout the years, it is not easy to succeed in the music industry, however, even after being rejected and eliminated from competitions multiple of times, Tori Kelly has never once given up on her dreams of playing in front of thousands of people. Tori Kelly slowly started gaining recognition after starting to post videos on YouTube at the age of 14, and at the age of 16, she auditioned for the singing competition television series American Idol. Sadly, she was eliminated from the show, but quickly after she began to work on her own music. Despite her shortcomings on American Idol and receiving harsh criticism from one of the judges simon cowell, Tori Kelly still tried hard to make a name for herself and started to approach the world differently. Although many people aren't as familiar with her and look down on her for gaining such popularity at such a young age, all of her success is a result of her strong dedication to her passion. In 2012, she independently released her first EP that she produced, wrote, and mixed herself in her bedroom, titled Handmade Songs By Tori Kelly, which ended up in the Top 10 Pop Albums list on iTunes, as a result, Scooter Braun, who is known for managing other successful artists such as Justin Bieber, ariana grande, etc. became her manager after seeing her videos on YouTube and introduced her to Capitol Records. It is amazing to think that someone started their career not much younger than i am right now, tori kelly was passionate and self confident allowing her to achieve her dreams, which is one of the many things I really admire about her.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Depression was a time of economic distress in the U.S after World War I that produced many hardships for Americans everywhere. It was a result of a stock market crash on Tuesday October 29 1929, a date often referred to as "Black Tuesday", and negatively impacted Americans everywhere, despite their class and race. During this time Americans had to fight what seemed to be a never ending battle of poverty, unemployment, hunger, and frustration of the economy and government that failed them. It was a time where many Americans lost hope for the country that they believed was supposed to protect them. However, out of every hardship, comes a strong leader that helps guide people out of this hardship. This new leader and icon was the 32nd president of the U.S, Franklin Delanor Roosevelt. Franklin Delanor Roosevelt is arguably the greatest American President to ever live. He helped relief and aid Americans within the first 100 days of his term with his numerous acts and plans like CCC, and AAA that helped provide Americans with jobs. He strengthened the American economy and relieved them out of the Great Depression. He also aided the Allied Forces during WWII and helped them beat Nazi Germany. FDR was such a good president he got elected to four terms. He served from 1933 to his death in 1945, the only president to do so. Plus he has an island named after him. To put it in simple terms, Franklin Delanor Roosevelt was simply the G.O.A.T of U.S presidents.

ReplyDeleteWithin the Harry Potter series, British author J.K Rowling creates a world that provides nothing less than a breath of fresh air for readers. Unlike the overbearing, dull lives that we seem to lead, the wizarding world that Rowling paints harps on the meaning of friendship, bravery, and magic. The main character, Harry Potter, suffers from the traumatic loss of his parents, who were murdered by a dark wizard when he was nothing but an infant. As a result, Harry is forced to live with his dreadful aunt and uncle, the Dursley’s, a family that shuns creativity in all forms. Still, despite the conditions of his environment, Harry remains a positive and kind child. Then, at the age of 11, Harry learns he is a wizard and arrives at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, for his first year of magical education. Once there, Harry finds that everything the Dursley’s disapproved of, experimentation, laughter, joy, and friendship, are all prized qualities at Hogwarts. For the first time in his life, Harry makes friends with two of his classmates, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, who treat him as a regular teenage wizard, despite his well known, dark past. Throughout the 7 years they attend school together, Ron, Harry, and Hermione face many challenges, some even life threatening when it comes to fighting against one of the darkest wizards of all time, Lord Voldemort. Still, it seems that Ron, Harry, and Hermione are always capable of what is thrown at them because they have each other. Ultimately, what J.K Rowling demonstrates through this relationship is the power of friendship. Terrible family members, social challenges, and even a dark past can be overcome if a person is able to lean on a true friend. Although it may seem impossible to find “magic” within the real world, what Rowling has taught me is that a true friendship can bring magic to the people who most deserve it.

Recently I discovered that the French elections are happening right about now and the people involved are some interesting characters that could be seen as parallels to American presidential candidates. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, one of the candidates, originally was believed to make it through to the next round if a run-off had to happen is incredibly imaginative. He focused on holographic technology and did a speech in several cities at once. He may be more favored by the youth for his innovative ideas like Bernie Sanders was, but he also supports and stands with communist ideals. Emmanuel Macron, another candidate who did happen to make it through to the next round went from being an investment banker to campaigning to be president. The oddest thing about him is that he went on to marry his teacher who when he was 15 was 36. He is considered to be more of an obama type as to being more liberal and progressive and even has had many conversations with Obama about political issues. The only problem standing in Macrons way is Marine Le Pen, a right wing politician who no one would believe could get far in the election but is now alongside Macron fighting for the presidency. Which is where the connection between our American society and Frances politics is established. These elections matter because they are following in the same footsteps of the election America just went through and as we are nearing the a hundredth day in office of the man no one would believe could win the presidency it should be clear that an election like this shouldn’t occur twice. So it is crucial for Americans to tune in to the politics going on around the world and not just with ours in order to prevent detrimental impacts across the globe.
An important event that took place that sculpts our way of life today would be the woman suffrage movement which began in 1848 as well as the first women's rights convention which was held in Seneca Falls, New York. After two days of discussion and debate, 62 women and 52 men signed a declaration of sentiments, which outlines grievances and set the agenda for the women’s rights movement. A set of 12 resolutions was adopted calling for equal treatment of women and men under the law of voting rights for women. Although the the point of this movement was to fight for all women to have the right to vote, African American women were not included in suffrage. They weren’t included because of the color of their skin. In 1913, when it came to the suffrage parade, the organizers of the march asked that the black suffragist group to march either at the end of the march or not at all. This event matters because, without strong brave women coming together to fight for what they believe in, women like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Ida B. Wells (African American), etc. No one would have helped women be as equal to a man. Their long fight of protesting, picketing the white house, getting thrown into prison and abused their finally pushed President Woodrow Wilson change his position on the rights of women, and got him to work actively for passage of the 19th Amendment so that in 1920 All women could vote, and today we still have the right to.

ReplyDeleteHistory:
One important historical figure is Rosa Parks. She is also an activist. Her story starts when she refused to get off her seat and give it to a white men when the men walked on the crowded bus. At that time, it was in the laws that black people can only sit in the back of the bus and when there are no longer seats, the black person has to offer his or her seat to a white person. But, when it was Parks turn, she refused to get up and said that she had a long day working. Then the police had to come and she was locked up in jail and fined $10 which is a lot of money at the time. But then, her friends and many other people heard about this stunding news and decided to not ride the public buses and to walk or ride their bikes. This forced the government to let Parks out and to better the rules that was unequal for black people or else the bus system would lose money. She is important because she along with Martin Luther King and many other people worked together to make America more free and to help with black people's lives. I recommend this because she can be used in many different arguments. For example, people can use him to argue that never give up is important, disobedient may be a good thing, people in jail are not always really bad people, it is okay to disobey, bravery can bring people really far and many other themes.
Current Events:
ReplyDeleteOne important event is the coming conclusion of Donald Trump’s first 100 days as president. Over his first 100 days, Donald Trump has promised and failed to deliver on many of his promises that he has made during his campaign, and has an approval rating of 41% according to FiveThirtyEight. Some of his failures and shortcomings include, as written by David Leonhard from the New York Times in the article “Donald Trump’s First 100 Days: The Worst on Record”, “His healthcare bill is a zombie. His border wall is stalled. He’s only now releasing basic principles of a tax plan. Even his executive order on immigration is tied up in the courts.” Even though discussing Trump’s first 100 days may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial over today’s concern of Trump’s future actions and plans for America, as the quote only shows a small glimpse of what he has done, compared to many of his other actions, like appointing rich businessmen into various powerful political positions, defunding science departments, still not releasing his tax returns, and flipping on various foreign policy issues, has caused some people to worry about how America’s legitimacy will be viewed to the rest of the world. Classmates should definitely study this subject since Trump’s short time as president is simply the most relevant current events for America and the rest of the world. This is especially true after Trump shot missiles on Syria and dropped, according to CNN, “the most powerful non-nuclear bomb” on Afghanistan, going against his previous isolationist statements during his campaign for presidency.
Sports:
ReplyDeleteThere are many different sports that all have one thing in common. They all require determination and the thirst to succeed. Volleyball is a sport that requires commitment. Misty May Treanor was an olympic beach volleyball player who is now retired. She is a three time olympic gold medalist but getting these medals was not handed to her. Treanor had to commit the majority of her time to training and practicing volleyball. She was determined to win. She had the thirst to succeed. Treanor was named to be the most successful female beach volleyball player. Treanor had to thrive to become the person she is today. She had to work hard for the title she holds. This commitment is not easy either. Many factors go into becoming an olympic athlete. You need to monitor everything you do because everything contributes to how you will play. Treanor practiced for the majority of her time because she knew this is what she wanted, she was determined to get all the way to the top and that is exactly what she did. It is crucial to always keep your head up and if you are truly determined, it will all work out no matter what the situation is.
Current Events the french election
ReplyDeleteLe pen VS Macaroon
Right now the primaries for the french election have concluded and the candidates are in for the final one v one. Le Pen is a moderate right while Macaroni is an alt right. This is a very important matter to consider because it did not just happen in france. It happened in america with trump, it happened in britain with brexit, and it is happening in other countries to. There is a lot of authoritarian leaders who are attempting to gain power and this is worrying because they create fascism in the world. This does not mean that there is going to be a world war 3 but it does mean that healthcare is going to get worse for those who need it, people will not have access to their rights, schools will be given less money and war more it means that right now everybody is going to get hurt. For the world to go forward in its best format and help the world's people in the best format it needs to be in unity. We as soon to be college students have a responsibility to be aware. Right now we are entering the world of politics where we can vote and if we the people don't chose to take up that power then no one will. It must be done and that is why my fellow students you must do it.
Sorry for posting in the morning, I thought that the blog posts were on Wednesday so I was supersized when I cheeked my email.
Ever since I was a little girl, sports have played an important role in my life. I have played soccer since I was 4, and experimented with just about every sport you can think of. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the companionship and chemistry required to be successful. Many people believe that sports can be played without any chemistry and companionship, but this notion is false. On my team, at the beginning of the season, we lost most of our games because it was a completely new team. As the season progressed, we won more games and grew as a team. This coming season, my hope is that we continue to grow as a team, and win even more games. On my team now, I have some of my best friends. At the beginning of the season , I would not have thought that my teammates would become my sisters. I believe that sports create this companionship because you all have to work together for the same goal. Sports often bring out raw emotions that you wouldn’t normally see in a different setting. The people on your team have to figure out how to deal with each other's emotions, which brings people together. Sports play an important part in life and everyone should participate. Not only do they keep you healthy, they provide you with a solid foundation of friends and people to rely on. Although sports may only seem to align with those who already play sports, even those who don’t play competitive sports should pay attention to the impact it can make in our lives.
